The sculpture consists of a cast stone soccer ball that sits upon a cast stone pedestal. The pedestal in turn, is placed on a sectioned concrete block and is situated on a grass field. It is composed of SD Type III cement, FAI Sand, Everist Sand, #89 St. Cloud and 3/8” x 20 Sweetman coarse aggregate, as well as maroon and brown coloring agents. The material has been cast to portray pentagon and hexagon panels with lacing and stitching between each panel. The surfaces of the hexagon panels have been acid etched to give them a lighter appearance. The material has been formed over a ferrous metal armature. At this point it is unknown whether stainless or mild steel was utilized. The pedestal is comprised of the same cast stone mix and slightly slopes outward with nearly a 30-degree slope up to the soccer ball for the last 1-2 feet of the pedestal. The lower portion is unfinished with a rough texture and raised aggregates. The upper portion is honed to a shine/polish with smooth stone faces, though depressions at the binder can still be felt. The polished areas are engraved on the east and west sides. To make them noticeable and easy to read, the darker color has been used within the lettering. Four threaded rods about 1” in width connect to the pedestal. There appears to be a foam-like caulking at the connection between the pedestal and the cement pad and backer foam beneath the caulk.
