The piece in question is a painted mild steel grouping of three bears; a standing adult holding salmon in her mouth and the two cubs standing. Half-inch to 5/8 inch threaded mild steel rebar makes up the general framework of figures (backbone, feet, etc). Half-inch mild steel rods have been bent and welded together to form defining features of the animals, including fur. A single layer of black paint has been applied with bronze paint highlights. The salmon has been painted red and green. The figures have been welded to painted mild steel “x”s that have been embedded into poured concrete pads. The cubs have been welded directly to the inserts, whereas the large bear has been welded to a crossbar, which in turn has been welded to the pad. The large bear is attached to a separate pad than the two cubs. The pads are embedded in the ground, but their depth is unknown. The signature plate of the artist is located at the proper left foot. The plaque’s frame and hardware are made of stainless steel. The quartzite plaque has a smooth finish and is engraved with black paint in recessed areas.
