The work is comprised of four cubic boxes made of aluminum sheeting that is screwed to a primed, mild steel frame. The screws are ferrous metal and most have been painted. There was also a blue-colored adhesive-like material applied between the aluminum panels and the mild steel frame. Black bands of an unknown composition have been painted on the aluminum sheets in order to give the impression of separate blocks. Rubbery caulk sealant has been used between the black joints. The aluminum has been clear-coated with an unknown substance in order to protect the structure from aluminum oxide. Within the center of each “box” is an origami crane formed from ¼” mild steel sheet. They’ve been coated with automotive paint (white, red, yellow, and black) and an automotive clear coat. Four ½-5/8 inch threaded painted mild stainless steel rods are welded to inside/underneath corners of cranes. Four stainless steel washers are visible at the surface of the aluminum. There is likely a nut on the inside of the box. All four “boxes” are attached to a poured concrete footing that is embedded into a hillside. A laser-cut, stainless steel title plaque has been mounted to the front of the footing. This piece was commissioned and created per a CIP project for Parks. See project description doc for more info. As of March 2015 the parcel of land is being sold and the sculpture has been moved to a storage location pending any additional decisions by VAC as to what should be done with it. As of May2016 VAC meeting, the sculpture will probably be sold with surplus property in the next annual surplus property sale in the fall of 2016.
