City condition notes

The painted wall mural at Meldrum Park “The World Comes to Whittier”. The project was initiated by Whittier Middle School students in teacher Lela Himmerich’s class in 2011. In August 2012, the National Endowment for the Arts awarded the Sioux Falls Arts Council a $50,000 matching grant for the Whittier Neighborhood Project at Meldrum Park. The Sioux Falls Arts Council and Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the Whittier Residents Association and other local organizations, planned, designed, and painted a wall mural and displayed additional public art elements at Meldrum Park in the Whittier neighborhood. Project activities included community engagement such as design workshops, educational activities for middle school students, and the installation of public art. Mural was constructed during the Summer of 2013. On Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 6:00pm, the public was invited to help celebrate Meldrum Park’s incredible new 150 foot long mural. Mayor Mike Huether and other distinguished guests spoke. The mural is located in Meldrum Park at the corner of 6th & Lewis in Sioux Falls, SD.
