The Termesphere is a 4-foot sphere that is painted on the outside with a six-point perspective design system, and depicts the past, present, and future urban transformation of the City of Sioux Falls. Avera McKennan Hospital and University Center (Avera) commissioned the artist Dick Termes to construct the piece. Avera donated the piece to the City of Sioux Falls. The Termesphere is prominently displayed in the Sioux Falls Convention Center lobby and is suspended from a cable, powered by an electric motor, and slowly rotates on its axis. It includes a circular railing system, accent lighting and plaques. Avera and the artist were responsible for the placement and installation including lighting improvements. Assessed value is per insurance company. 12/2019 Finance Dept. representative and Washington Pavilion Executive Director agreed to relocate the Around Town Termesphere to the Washington Pavilion near the Wells Fargo Cinedome.
